Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco (SFETO), Ms Jacko Tsang visited Denver, Colorado on April 12-14 to meet with officials, trade promotion organizations and chambers of commerce representing the City and County of Denver, and the State of Colorado.
During the official visit to Denver, Ms Tsang met with Ms Michelle Hadwiger, Director of Global Business Development, and Mr Conner Murphy, Diplomacy Manager of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT). At the meeting, Ms Tsang highlighted that Hong Kong is well-positioned for Colorado businesses to showcase their products and services. Noting that Colorado is strong in R&D, Ms Tsang shared how Hong Kong had been promoting I&T development, in particular biotechnology, in recent years. Riding on previous success, she encouraged OEDIT to consider bringing business delegations to Hong Kong again in the future.
Ms Tsang also visited World Trade Center Denver, where she met with President Karen Gerwitz. Ms Tsang provided updates on Hong Kong on various fronts, from the city’s latest economic performance to the pandemic situation. She highlighted what Hong Kong had to offer for US companies seeking expansion to Asia. The two sides shared their priorities and explored opportunities for collaboration.
In her meeting with President Raymond Gonzales and Economic Development Manager Morgan Alu of Metro Denver EDC, Ms Tsang highlighted Hong Kong’s strengths in business, trade and financial services, as well as the latest efforts in diversifying the economy, developing I&T and bringing in venture capital investments. The two sides exchanged views on talent retention and attraction, and discussed ways to further enhance business relations between Hong Kong and Denver.
Ms Tsang had a meeting with Ms Stephanie Garnica, Director for Global Business Development; Mr Tim Martinez, Global Business Development Manager; and Ms Vanessa Simsick, Global Business Development Specialist of Denver Economic Development & Opportunity, City and County of Denver (DEDO). They shared updates about business recovery and economic performance of Hong Kong and Denver. The two offices discussed ways to better familiarize Denver businesses with opportunities in Hong Kong and vice versa, thereby fostering closer economic ties between the two cities.
Ms Tsang also called on the Asian Chamber of Commerce Colorado, where she
met with Ms Fran Campbell, President and CEO; Mr Clarence Low, Board Member and Mr Joe Sinisi, Board Member. Ms Tsang updated the Chamber on Hong Kong’s latest development and the city’s commitment to attain carbon neutrality. In addition to strengthening business connection between the two places, they discussed prospects on art and cultural exchange.
Concluding her official visit, Director Tsang visited the Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency, City and County of Denver (CASR) where she had a fruitful discussion with Ms Grace Rink, Executive Director, CASR, on efforts to build a cleaner, greener and more sustainable environment. Ms Tsang shared Hong Kong’s latest commitment to achieve carbon neutrality, and the challenges and business opportunities arising therefrom. They explored ways to facilitate exchange of ideas between relevant industries in Hong Kong and Denver.
