In her maiden Policy Address, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam outlined plans to maintain the city's competitiveness, diversify the economy and address livelihood issues.
Mrs. Lam unveiled new tax measures to reduce the burden on companies, including introducing a two-tiered profits tax system that would lower the profits tax rate to 8.25 percent - half the current standard rate - on the first US$256,000. Earnings after that would be taxed at the current 16.5 percent rate.

A team of 22 young athletes from Hong Kong participated in the Hong Kong-Northern California International Dragon Boat Festival for the first time and won the second place in the USTA Net Generation College Cup. The two-day festival was held on September 23 and 24 at Lake Merritt in Oakland, California.

Asian Youth Orchestra (AYO) kicked off their 2017 North American and European Tour on August 4, 2017 in San Jose, California. Their world tour, in fact began in Hong Kong, then to Beijing and Tokyo before crossing the Pacific to San Jose and Berkeley in California. They then performed in the East Coast in the United States and across the Atlantic Ocean for another eleven concerts in Europe.
