On May 31, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco hosted a business luncheon for Ms Sarah Grimmer, Secretary-General, Hong Kong International Arbitration Center (HKIAC) and Mr Cedric Chao, Partner and Co-Head, Global International Arbitration Practice, DLP Piper to discuss “Doing Business with China:  Why Arbitration Matters”.

China has embarked on economic expansion since its market opened up three decades ago, rising to become the world’s second largest economy today.  As cross-border deals continue to close between foreign and Chinese companies, it has become a top priority for businesses to capitalize on opportunities and evaluate risk management strategies.

At the luncheon, Ms Grimmer and Mr Chao discussed key considerations when selecting effective dispute resolution mechanisms.  Attendees learnt about the role Hong Kong played in dispute resolution involving Chinese and foreign parties and recent trends.
