
Hong Kong actress and martial artist Pei-Pei Cheng was awarded ‘Spotlight Honoree’ at the CAAMFest on May 14. Two of her classic movies, “Come Drink with Me” and “Golden Swallow” were featured at the Festival, which ran from May 10 to May 24.
At the award night, the Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, San Francisco, Mr Ivanhoe Chang welcomed and congratulated Cheng. “Our office is thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of this special event, honoring a star from Hong Kong – Cheng Pei Pei, the ‘Queen of Swords’, a female martial arts legend, an icon of Hong Kong martial arts movie before Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan,” said Mr Chang.
Film production began in Hong Kong more than a century ago. Kung Fu movies have always been recognized as an important genre. “With the change of time, the genres have expanded. Today, Hong Kong continues to make high-quality and internationally popular movies. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is dedicated to encourage the healthy development of the film and creative industries. We will further nurture the young and talented,” Mr Chang added.
After the award presentation, Cheng sat down for an intimate on-stage conversation with the guests about her incredible career.
