The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced that Eddie Mak Tak-wai, took up the post of Hong Kong Commissioner for Economic and Trade Affairs, USA, on July 3, 2018.
Mr. Mak succeeds Clement C.M. Leung who has taken up the post of Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Creative Industries) on June 12, 2018. Mr. Leung has served as the Hong Kong Commissioner to the United States since February 2014.
As Commissioner, Mr. Mak is the most senior representative of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in the United States. In this capacity he directs the government’s constituency-building activities across the country and works to strengthen and enrich Hong Kong-U.S. economic, trade and cultural ties. He also oversees the work of the three Hong Kong Economic and Trade Offices in Washington, New York and San Francisco.
Mr. Mak joined the Administrative Service in August 1991. He has served in various bureaus and departments including the former Chief Secretary’s Office, the former Information Technology and Broadcasting Bureau and the Civil Service Bureau. He was Director-General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Washington, D.C. from September 2006 to August 2010. Prior to this appointment, he was Deputy Secretary for the Civil Service from 2012 to 2018. |
