For more than three decades, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, San Francisco, has sought to strengthen and broaden the economic, trade and cultural relationship with the western part of the United States and enhance understanding of Hong Kong’s free trade policy. Through business conferences and event promotions as well as arranging visits to and from Hong Kong, the office has made great strides in building business ties with many U.S. counterparts. The office also strengthens cultural exchanges by screening Hong Kong movies at international film festivals, staging performances by various performing arts groups, and bringing in exhibitions from Hong Kong that not only promote the culture of Hong Kong, but also demonstrate the vibrancy and diversity of Asia’s World City.
Receiving the Excellence in International Partnerships award from California State Treasurer John Chiang and President of Friends of the Chinese American Museum Jim Jang at the Gala, Mr. Ivanhoe Chang, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, San Francisco said, “Hong Kong, an international metropolis herself, has many advantages and roles. As Asia’s World City, Hong Kong is the region’s trading hub and one of the best connected cities in Asia. As a highly open economy, we embrace the free flow of capital, goods, talent and information. Through common grounds and interests, we have built strong and long-standing trade ties with the 19 states in the western part of the United States. Our valued ties are also boosted in areas ranging from culture and the arts, to science, technology and innovation.
Mr. Chang said that the award would serve as a reminder for the office to work even harder, to strike for excellence and to bring the best of what Hong Kong can offer.
